ಕಡುಗಂದುಬೆನ್ನಿನ ಕಳಿಂಗ ಗೂಡು ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಮತ್ತು ಪೋಷಿಸುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಕಳಿಂಗ ಮರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಾವು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ ಹಾಗು ಗಂಡು ಒಬ್ಬ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ಗಂಡನಂತೆ ಹೆಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಆಹಾರ ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಂತರ ಮೊಟ್ಟೆಯಿಂದ ಮರಿಗಳು ಹೊರಬಂದಾಗ ಅಮ್ಮನೊಡನೆ ಆ ಮರಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಆಹಾರ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ಎರಡು ವಾರಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಗಂಡು ಕಳಿಂಗ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತ ಅಗತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಒಬ್ಬ ನಿಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ ತಂದೆಯಾಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿ ಮರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗು ಹೆಂಡತಿಯನ್ನು ಪೋಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. — ಪಕ್ಷಿವೀಕ್ಷಕರ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆಯಂತೆ

It has been observed by Field Birders, the Bay-backed Shrike when in nesting & brooding the female does the Incubation and the male like a Dutiful Householder feeds the female. Later the chicks are also fed by the male alongwith the female as close as to two weeks. Quite an ordeal but does it dutifully forsaking his own needs. !!!
